Sultan, a German Shepherd, is the first-ever dog to be appointed by the new K9 department in the town of Yarmouth, ME. Sultan was in service for nine years and then retired in 2012. Through out the days of his service, he was a superhero, as he would chase bad criminals and track down important clues to close cases. Sultan did an awesome job through all his career.
However, the department decided to retire Sultan, because his partner, Officer Michael Vogel, was appointed for a new job in Florida.
Michael received more than 1,000 calls that needed immediate action and Sultan was always in his company and took action alongside Michael.
After his retirement, Sultan was adopted by a K9 Officer named Stephenson, but sadly his health begun to degradate quickly.
Stephenson had in mind that he had to take a very tough decision which saying goodbye to his buddy. However, he wanted to make a great farewell to Sultan.
A lot of K9 police officers from around the state came to Yarmouth in order to pay tribute to Sultan and honor him in the last day of his life.Sultan was too weak to walk, so he was carried by Stephenson into the Yarmouth Veterinary centers and officers gave him the last salute.
To express their deep sorrow, the police department official Facebook page has changed its profile picture and replaced by the picture of Sultan when he was a pup.
