This “Angel” apparently had a wild side.
“Charlie’s Angels” star Jaclyn Smith has revealed that her former castmate Tanya Roberts once propositioned her for a threesome with Roberts and her husband, Barry Roberts.
Smith recalled the surprising encounter while reflecting on her years on the hit series in her newly released memoir, “I Once Knew a Guy Named Charlie.”
According to Smith, Tanya and Barry had an open marriage at the time — a relationship dynamic that ultimately led to the unexpected proposition.
Smith wrote in her new memoir, “I Once Knew a Guy Named Charlie,” that Tanya had an open marriage with her husband, Barry Roberts, according to People.
The actress recalled that Tanya was candid about the arrangement and had no reservations about asking others to “swing” with the couple.
Smith then detailed her own surprising encounter, revealing that Tanya propositioned her while they were on a flight to Hawaii, asking whether she would join her and Barry for a threesome.
Although Smith turned down the invitation, she said she admired Tanya’s openness, describing her “honesty about her sexuality” as both “brave and self-aware.”
Tanya (pictured in 2012) died in 2021 at age 65 after a severe urinary tract infection led to sepsis.
Smith, now 80, formed a close friendship with Tanya after the actress joined “Charlie’s Angels” as Julie Rogers for the show’s fifth and final season.
The hit series, which aired for five seasons from 1976 to 1981, centered on three female police academy graduates who traded mundane desk jobs for careers as private investigators working for the mysterious, unseen millionaire Charlie Townsend.
Smith played Kelly Garrett and was the only original “Angel” to remain with the series throughout its entire five-season run. She initially starred alongside Farrah Fawcett and Kate Jackson, with the trio quickly becoming household names following the show’s debut.
Smith was the only cast member to remain in her role for all five seasons of the series, from 1976 to 1981.
Despite the show’s breakout success, the original lineup didn’t last long. Fawcett departed after just one season as Jill Munroe and was replaced by Cheryl Ladd, while Jackson exited in 1979. Shelley Hack briefly took her place before Tanya joined the cast for the fifth and final season.
Tanya died in January 2021 at age 65. Her longtime partner later told The Post that her death was caused by a blood infection that developed from a urinary tract infection and was complicated by Hepatitis C.
Following her death, Smith paid tribute to her former co-star on social media, remembering Tanya for the “joy” she brought “to so many people” through her role on “Charlie’s Angels.”
Smith also opened up about the rampant drug use she witnessed on the set of the iconic series, admitting that it often prompted her to retreat to her motor home.
“The more drug use I saw, the more time I spent in my motor home,” she wrote. “I was in there a lot by the end of the series.”
Smith stressed that she has “never” used cocaine and “never will,” explaining that she has seen the drug “turn people into the worst version of themselves.”
Still, the challenges behind the scenes didn’t weaken the bond Smith shared with her original co-stars, Fawcett and Jackson (pictured in 2006).
Fawcett died in 2009, but Smith writes that the friendship the three women forged during their time as “Charlie’s Angels” endured well beyond the show.
“After the applause, the friendship is still there,” she wrote. “That sisterhood was strong.”
