Paramedics were called to O’Hara’s home early Friday morning, and she was transported to a local hospital in “serious” condition.

The cause of death has not yet been confirmed, though the legendary actress died “following a brief illness,” according to her agency, Creative Artists Agency. Representatives did not provide further details.

O’Hara had previously been diagnosed with situs inversus, an extremely rare condition in which a person’s internal organs are positioned on the opposite side of the body. Her liver, for example, was located on the left side, while her heart was on the right.

While the condition is typically harmless, it can make medical complications more difficult to diagnose, as symptoms may present differently in individuals with mirrored organ placement.

Catherine O’Hara appeared in a wide range of television shows and films, including The Last of Us.

Situs inversus affects roughly 1 in every 10,000 people and is more commonly diagnosed in males, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Enrique Iglesias and Donny Osmond are among those who also live with the condition.

It remains unclear whether the rare disorder played any role in O’Hara’s death.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Bob Welch, and their two sons, Matthew, 31, and Luke, 29.

O’Hara began her career in 1974 at The Second City, a performance arts theater in her hometown of Toronto, Canada. She later rose to fame with her portrayal of Delia Deetz in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice.
