September 12 marks a significant milestone for superstar Britney Spears, as her youngest son Jayden turns 18 on Thursday. Sources close to the Princess of Pop have exclusively told DailyMail.com that while Britney will be celebrating, her ex-husband Kevin Federline might not be in the mood for festivities.
Jayden’s 18th birthday will bring an end to the child support payments Spears has been making to Federline for the care of their two sons — Jayden and Sean Preston, 18 — over the past 17 years, totaling an estimated $5 million.
A source close to Britney told The Mail, “The amount of money Britney has given Kevin for the two boys is extraordinary, more than enough for any man to support a family, which she believes he has done.”
The feeling in Britney’s circle is that Federline, 46 — a former backup dancer for Justin Timberlake and unsuccessful pop artist who now occasionally works as a DJ — will likely struggle to maintain the lifestyle he’s grown used to.

The Mail contacted Federline’s lawyer for a response to these claims but did not receive a reply.
Whatever happens to Federline, Britney considers it his issue to handle, sources tell The Mail.
“Britney is hearing that he’s not too happy,” insiders say, while she’s “living her best life.”
Money is certainly not a concern for Spears. According to sources, the financial success of her best-selling memoir, *The Woman in Me*, along with a deal with Universal Pictures to adapt it into a film, has been transformative. These opportunities have helped her move past some of her struggles and tap into a new creative energy.
“This film has allowed her to get out of her own head,” the source told The Mail. “She’s even considering creating new music for the soundtrack, though it’s still in the early stages.”
Additionally, Britney is reportedly cutting out negative influences from her life, including her former housekeeper-turned-boyfriend Paul Soliz. “She’s eliminated all toxic people,” the source said.
As for her children, Spears is excited about the possibility of “reconnecting with her boys.”

Federline, 46, a former backup dancer for Justin Timberlake, now works only occasionally as a DJ and has been receiving an estimated $480,000 annually in child support payments since 2018.

Sources close to Spears reveal that while she is disappointed she won’t be with Jayden on his birthday—since he is currently living in Hawaii and is expected to celebrate with friends—she plans to give him a gift that is “more expensive than anything his father could afford.”
Regarding Spears’s relationship with Federline, the situation is more complex. Court documents show that Federline initially received $240,000 per year for the care of Jayden and Sean Preston from 2007 until 2017, when the amount was increased by court order to $480,000 annually.
Federline now resides on the island of Oahu in Hawaii with his third wife, Victoria Prince, whom he married in 2013. They live in a rented five-bedroom, 6,300 square-foot home, valued at $3.7 million and located a few blocks from the ocean in the upscale community of Portlock, Oahu. Federline’s household includes Jayden, Sean Preston, and his four other children—two from his marriage to Prince and two from his first marriage to Shar Jackson.
This affluent lifestyle is a stark contrast to Federline’s circumstances in 2007, following his divorce from Spears, which cited “irreconcilable differences.” That year, he was awarded custody of their sons while Spears faced a public breakdown and was placed under a conservatorship in 2008.
At that time, Spears, residing in a luxurious Los Angeles mansion, was ordered to pay $10,000 per month per child in child support. In 2018, Federline disclosed his financial difficulties while seeking an increase in support payments to $20,000 per month per child. He stated in court documents that his DJ earnings amounted to $3,000 a month, and he had no health insurance, stocks, assets, or savings.

Kevin and Britney met at a club in the summer of 2004, during Britney’s peak fame, and married just a few months later.

Since 2007, Spears has sent Federline an estimated $5 million for the care of their two sons, Jayden and Sean Preston, 18.
“I am simply less of a ‘name’ and less in demand than I was in 2008, which has negatively impacted my income,” Federline stated.
He also mentioned that he and Victoria, whom he was dating at the time, were squeezed into a 2,000-square-foot home with Jayden, Sean Preston, and his four other children.
“Sean and Jayden have to share a room at my house,” he wrote in court papers. “There is no space for them to invite friends over or host sleepovers.”
Federline contrasted his situation with Spears’s, describing her as “a single woman living alone in a 13,264-square-foot Neoclassical Italianate villa on 21 acres in a gated community. Her home includes an elevator, library, media/game room, a 3,500-bottle wine cellar, an additional 1,200-square-foot pool house, an orchard, a resort-sized pool and spa, a lighted tennis court, and a three-hole golf course.”
He added, “The villa also has a library, media room, game room, private chefs, tutors, housekeepers, ATVs, and all the latest gaming and entertainment systems. I simply cannot come close to providing the same for our children in my modest home.”

Kevin relocated to Hawaii with his family in August 2023, citing DJ opportunities as a reason for the move. Meanwhile, Prince took up a position as an assistant volleyball coach at the University of Hawaii.

Federline has noted that “[Britney] takes our minor children on multiple lavish vacations each year, including trips to five-star resorts in Maui. I haven’t been able to take the kids on a vacation in years.”
He has acknowledged that his current life is a far cry from the glamorous early days of his three-year marriage to Spears. They first met in a nightclub during the summer of 2004, at the height of Spears’s fame, and married just a few months later. They became media sensations with their own reality show, *Britney & Kevin: Chaotic*.
After their divorce, Federline’s career struggled to gain traction. He ventured into modeling, music, and even professional wrestling but found it difficult to make a significant impact in these fields. During the 2010 season of VH1’s *Celebrity Fit Club*, he openly discussed his challenges and attributed his poor health to depression and his divorce from Spears.
Federline moved his family to Hawaii in August 2023, citing DJ opportunities as a reason for the relocation. His wife, Victoria Prince, took up a position as an assistant volleyball coach at the University of Hawaii.
Since the end of Spears’s conservatorship in November 2021, sources close to her say she has been working hard to rebuild her relationship with her sons. However, the boys have reportedly distanced themselves and have not been responding to her messages

Despite the lifestyle changes Kevin may face when child support payments end this week, sources say Britney is determined that her children will not be affected.

Britney Spears recently shared photos on Instagram featuring her two sons, Sean (9) and Jayden (7), along with her younger sister Jamie Lynn, 23, and Jamie Lynn’s six-year-old daughter Maddie.
In a 2022 interview with ITV, Jayden commented, “It’s almost like [Spears] has to post something on Instagram to get attention. This has been going on for years, and there’s a good chance it will never stop. I’m hoping she will eventually stop.”
In a now-deleted response, Britney criticized her son’s remarks and even brought up child support payments, asking, “Do you want me to keep improving so I can keep giving your dad $40,000 a month? Or is the reason for your hostility because it’s ending in two years and you won’t get anything?”
Sources now tell the Mail that any past conflicts between mother and sons are behind them. “Sean and Jayden know that she would do anything for them, but she will be very cautious to ensure any money given to them does not go to their dad.”
“Britney is doing extremely well right now,” the source added. “She has more than enough money to live comfortably for the rest of her life.”
