A commuter has been taken into custody after a video captured her forcefully shoving an elderly woman off a Boston bus, sending the victim crashing face-first onto the sidewalk.
The MBTA Transit Police announced Wednesday night that detectives identified and arrested the suspect — whose name has not been released — in connection with the Sept. 8 incident in Roxbury, Mass.
According to police, the altercation occurred around 1 p.m. near the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Warren Street, roughly three miles from Fenway Park.
A Boston commuter has been arrested after video surfaced showing her violently shoving an elderly woman off a bus, authorities said.
Security footage captured the suspect initially pushing the victim toward the vehicle’s open doors as she clung to the railing. Moments later, the assailant delivered a second shove, sending the woman tumbling out of the bus and face-first onto the pavement as stunned riders looked on.
Paramedics arrived about 20 minutes later and treated the victim, while bystanders and the driver stood by to help, according to WHDH. Police said the woman was conscious and, fortunately, did not sustain serious injuries.
The suspect — who had been pushing a stroller at the time of the assault — fled the scene before officers arrived.
The suspect then delivered a second shove, sending the elderly woman out the bus doors and face-first onto the pavement as shocked passengers looked on.
“There were a lot of people there trying to figure out what was happening because we just saw an elderly lady fall on the ground and didn’t know what was going on,” witness Mark Reeves told WHDH.
Although it took investigators some time to identify the suspect, local resident Dorothy Stringer said she immediately recognized her.
“I’ve seen that girl plenty of times … her attitude needs to change,” Stringer told the outlet. “She needs some anger management — that’s what she needs — because what she did was wrong.”
The MBTA Transit Police have not yet responded to a request for comment.
