Baby Eli Thompson was born with a condition known as congenital arrhinia. It’s a rare condition that makes its victims to be born without a nose; like baby Thompson. It has been reported that one out of 197 million babies born across the world are born with this condition.
Though little Thompson suffers from this condition, he is strong and healthy. His mother has even reached out to another mother whose child has the same condition. This is to make sure that she raises her beautiful baby normally without denying her the needed love.
“The day I delivered, everything went fine,” mom Brandi McGlathery told ABC News today. “At 4:42 when he was born, he came out and the doctor put him on my chest. When I took a closer look at him, I said, ‘He doesn’t have a nose,’ and they took him out of the room.”
“He had the most apologetic look on his face,” Brandi said of her doctor’s reaction. “I knew right away that something was wrong.”
Brandi was scared her baby boy wouldn’t survive. Due to lack of nose, a tracheostomy had to be used (a tube that helps with breathing), apart from that there was absolutely nothing wrong with her baby!
Research shows that there are only 38 cases like Eli’s – an absolutely heathy baby born with no nose. It’s a very, very rare condition!
23-year-old Brandi was feeling guilty. Nothing during the pregnancy had indicated any abnormalities, and tests had shown Eli to have a nasal bone. She was going through her time of pregnancy to understand if there was something that had gone wrong, but there wasn’t!
“I realized it was nothing anyone did. I mean, he’s perfect!”
“He’s an extremely happy baby and does cute stuff all the time,” she said. “There’s a reason aside from his health issue and not having a nose as to why we call him our miracle baby. He just tugs on people’s heart strings. It’s his demeanor.”
