In a surprising turn of events, Merryman selected a bridal gown, leaving many in the store astonished. The video, which was posted on Good Morning America’s YouTube channel on April 26, 2023, captured her confidently twirling and strutting in a white dress and pointed heels.
“Did I ever imagine I’d be getting married at 80? Absolutely not,” she began in the clip. “Well, I tried on three dresses, I think, and the first one I put on, I thought, ‘Wow, this really looks good on me.'”
It wasn’t just Merryman who believed the dress was meant for her. She became the center of attention as all the other brides in the store turned to admire and cheer for her.
“There were other brides trying on dresses, and they stopped everything they were doing just to look at her and see what she was doing,” her granddaughter revealed.
Merryman discovered love for the second time with a man 20 years her junior. She disclosed that they had been neighbors for seven years, but he was married with children at the time. After seven years, he got divorced, and she began inviting him over for lunch, which eventually led to the blossoming of love between them.

“If there are any 80-year-old women out there, take a chance. That’s all I can say. That’s what I’m doing,” she said. “I don’t have many more years left, and I’m happy now. Everybody used to say to me, ‘Why don’t you smile more?’ I smile a lot more now because he makes me laugh a lot,” she concluded, wearing a radiant smile herself.
