“Actress Susan Sarandon boasts a storied and prosperous career, commencing as a wide-eyed ingénue in the 1970s. Throughout several decades in the entertainment sphere, she has graced both the big and small screens with her presence, amassing numerous awards and accolades. Additionally, she has taken her talent to the stage, both on and off Broadway. Beyond her acting pursuits, Sarandon is a fervent advocate for various causes, including raising awareness about endometriosis treatment, and she holds the esteemed title of a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. But, the question remains: Where did it all begin?

Born on October 4, 1946, in New York City, New York, Sarandon’s passion for performance blossomed during her school years, encompassing acting, dance, and musical instruments. Her innate talent shone from the outset, only growing stronger as she ventured into adulthood.

Sarandon made her inaugural foray into acting with her appearance in the 1970 film “Joe.” Subsequently, she ventured into television before achieving fame as Janet Weiss in the musical comedy horror classic, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

She has graced the silver screen in numerous other remarkable productions, such as “The Witches of Eastwick,” “Lorenzo’s Oil,” “The Client,” and “Little Women.” Nonetheless, even today, Susan Sarandon’s most iconic cinematic achievement remains 1991’s “Thelma & Louise,” where she shared the spotlight with Geena Davis. The film garnered acclaim for its celebration of sisterhood and friendship, brought to life brilliantly by the two talented female leads.

In the present day, Sarandon, now in her late 70s, continues to showcase her striking physique while radiating self-assuredness. Yet, it’s worth noting that some individuals, including Piers Morgan, have voiced criticism about her choice of attire, asserting that it may not align with societal expectations for her age.

Sarandon has experienced one marriage and divorce, along with three high-profile relationships involving Franco Amurri, Tim Robbins, and Jonathan Bricklin. Additionally, she is the proud parent of three children, with her firstborn arriving when she was 39 and her youngest arriving at the age of 45.

Sarandon has been outspoken about embracing motherhood at around the age of 40. Her journey into motherhood began with the birth of her eldest child, Eva Amurri, in 1985. Subsequently, she welcomed her second child, Jack Henry Robbins, in 1989, and her third child, Miles Robbins, in 1992.

As reported by PEOPLE, Sarandon harbors no regrets regarding the timing of her motherhood journey. Reflecting on the worst advice she ever received, the actress revealed, “I think it was, ‘Don’t have the baby,’ as though it would ruin my career, and I was so old anyway.” She further elaborated, “I had my first baby at 39 and my third at 45, and with each child, (people were) like, ‘Are you crazy? Don’t!'”

Speaking with PEOPLE in 2020, Sarandon shared some guidance for prospective mothers, emphasizing the pivotal role of mothers in the early stages of parenthood. She stated, “What I always tell any woman who’s telling me they’re thinking of having a baby is that no matter how involved or well-intentioned your baby daddy or husband is, it is up to you in the beginning. That’s the way it’s designed, there’s just not getting around that.” She added, “Try to have the best time you can with the birth and everything else because it’s a pretty crazy, sci-fi adventure. Try not to think you have to be perfect.”

Now at the age of 76, Sarandon not only embraces her role as a mother but also revels in her new role as a grandmother. Although she describes the latter role as “so much easier,” it’s evident that she cherishes every facet of her journey through motherhood.

Despite surpassing the age typically associated with the peak of Hollywood actresses’ careers, Sarandon has consistently secured acting roles that transcend the conventional “grandma” portrayals. Notable among her diverse roles are her portrayal of a seductive teacher in the TV series “30 Rock” and the free-spirited character Isis in “A Bad Moms Christmas.”

Commencing with her iconic performance as the sexually liberated Janet Weiss in the 1975 cult classic “Rocky Horror,” Sarandon has cultivated a reputation for embodying charismatic and outspoken characters with a sensual allure.

Furthermore, Sarandon has maintained a consistent presence on lists celebrating Hollywood’s “Sexiest Women,” a distinction she openly embraces. She conveyed her appreciation for this recognition to news.com.au, stating:

“I have absolutely no issue with it. I mean, my friends at this age are still embracing their sexuality. I’m not some anomaly. I believe age is a concept that needs reevaluation. Just as people have discovered that 40 isn’t the end of life, neither is 60.”

She went on to stress the significance of attitude in radiating attractiveness. She drew inspiration from the late French star Jeanne Moreau, who consistently embraced life with a resounding “yes,” making her an utterly captivating presence.

In a conversation with PEOPLE about aging gracefully, Sarandon shared her insights, saying, “If you want to age gracefully, avoid smoking, indulge in laughter, maintain a regular exercise routine, nourish your body well, and protect your skin from the sun; those would be the key factors.”

Despite her undeniable beauty showcased in her numerous film and television appearances over the years, Sarandon emphasized that physical perfection is not the ultimate measure of beauty, stating, “I’ve come to understand that beauty doesn’t hinge on perfection; it’s the imperfections that render you truly beautiful.”

While Sarandon undeniably exudes confidence, there have been individuals who’ve critiqued her fashion choices. In 2016, Piers Morgan took to Twitter to criticize Sarandon for her attire, notably a white suit jacket left open to reveal a black bra and cleavage.

Morgan tweeted, “Would Susan Sarandon wear this to a funeral? No. It was thus horribly inappropriate for an In Memoriam tribute.” In a subsequent tweet, he remarked, “To clarify, I’ve no problem with Susan Sarandon flashing her breasts. Just tacky to do it when fronting ‘In Memoriam’ at awards show.”

This garnered agreement from some quarters, with one person labeling Sarandon as “unattractive,” and another using derogatory language to describe her.

However, others defended Sarandon, branding Morgan as “tacky” and a “loser.” Sarandon herself responded with humor, tweeting, “Today’s #TBT is dedicated to @piersmorgan” and sharing a photo of herself in a bra.

Sarandon discussed her fashion sensibilities in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, stating, “I’m not fully immersed in the world of fashion, but I have a keen sense of what appeals to me and what I find interesting and worth holding onto.” She emphasized that she doesn’t blindly follow trends and opts for suits because they provide comfort. She even ventured into jumpsuits, acknowledging that they can give her the appearance of a mechanic.

Ultimately, it’s evident that Sarandon is at ease with her body at any age and has developed a deeper appreciation for life in her 70s. She expressed this sentiment, saying, “When your perception of time has a finite quality, unlike the boundless feeling of youth, you tend to focus on what truly matters and surround yourself with people who are vibrant, inquisitive, courageous, and adventurous.”
