Queen Elizabeth II will be buried in the King George VI Memorial Chapel at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
It looks like the late royal couple will be reunited again in death as Prince Philip will soon be laid to rest with his wife, Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty will be buried in the King George VI Memorial Chapel at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. Her husband Prince Philip’s body will be moved from the Royal Vault so that the late couple can be laid to rest together. The Queen died a little over a year after her consort passed away at the age of 99 on April 9, 2021. The two had been married for 73 years, reports ABC News. After Prince Philip’s death, Prince Andrew told reporters at the time that his mother was feeling a “huge void in her life”. “The Queen as you would expect is an incredibly stoic person and she described his passing as a miracle and she is contemplating, I think that’s the way I would put it. She described it as having left a huge void in her life, but we, the family, the ones that are closer, are rallying around to make sure that we’re there to support her.”

The Royal Vault was created way back between 1804 and 1810 for George III, who died in 1820. Many royal kings including George IV and William IV have been buried in the vault. According to Insider, the Duke of Edinburgh is the 25th member of the royal family to be interred in the Royal Vault beneath St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. The 200-year-old vault is not his final resting place and he will be buried in the King George VI memorial chapel on Thursday next to his wife who will be directly buried in the King George VI memorial chapel. The late Queen will not be interred in the vault.

The Queen died in Balmoral on September 8, bringing her historic 70-year reign to an end. She was 96 years old. Last week, King Charles III addressed the United Kingdom on the first full day of his reign in a nearly 9-minute long speech. The 73-year-old British monarch ascended the throne after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. “I speak to you today with feelings of profound sorrow. Throughout her life, Her Majesty The Queen – my beloved Mother – was an inspiration and example to me and to all my family, and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother; for her love, affection, guidance, understanding, and example,” he said. “Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.”

The Queen’s grandchildren were also deeply hurt by the Queen’s death as they walked behind the Queen’s coffin which was taken from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall on Wednesday in a solemn procession. The Duke of Sussex got emotional during the service honoring the Queen. Prince Harry could be seen wiping away tears as the coffin was placed in the hall. It was not just the Queen’s grandchildren who were mourning her death but their spouses too. The Princess of Wales, 40, and the Duchess of Sussex, 41, seemed to be blinking back tears before Her Majesty’s coffin was raised on a catafalque. The Duchess of Sussex also paid a subtle tribute to the late monarch at the procession. Meghan paired her black ensemble with a pair of pearl-and-diamond earrings, which were gifted to her by Her Majesty during their first solo outing together in 2018.
