Choose a word. Say it inside your head, and say it multiple times and different non-verbal levels. Try another word, and go through the same process. How does it feel? Negative thoughts can drain the body of energy but a positive train of thought invigorates from the inside out.

Be present in every day tasks and motions. For example, washing the dishes is usually a mundane task. However, it can be relaxing if you put yourself in the moment and not allow yourself to wish you were doing something else or wishing time away. When taking a walk, feel one foot move in front of the other and be present. Too often daydreaming can cause more hurt than help. Allow yourself to be present when going from one task to another. Listen and smell what is happening around you. Also, be aware of your breathing and allow it to take your full concentration.

Be witness to the negative thought patterns in your mind or distasteful feeling in your energy field. If you can see it and point to it, it’s not you. The ability to notice it implies that it is separate from you. If you feel like you are the observer to what is happening in your own body than there is awareness outside of the thoughts and emotions that are felt. Are you thinking right now? Be aware of the thoughts in your mind. Are they more real than the observer who is aware of them? The person outside of the negative stream of thought is who you are. Rest there. After doing so, listen to the voices in your head as a third party. The rambling, the incessant noise, and the thoughts that can drive a person mad are not you.

Observe the room that you are in and be aware of the objects within it. Would the room still be a room without the objects? Yes, certainly, so when things are added to it technically a new room is not made. It is the same thing with you as a person. Sit back in your mind, watch the contents, be aware of them, but do not allow them to control you. Can you see them? If so, it is not you. Breathe, listen, and look around. Being present in the moment allows such peace. Do you feel free?
