Benny Blanco shared that Selena Gomez sometimes experiences manic episodes and doesn’t always remember them afterward.
“She’ll start to realize she’s having it after, and sometimes she doesn’t even remember when it’s happening,” he explained. “It’s such a delicate thing because you’re not really supposed to talk to someone about it while they’re deep in it. Even when we were dating, she was so hyper-aware.”
He added that Gomez can often sense when a shift is coming on, recalling her saying, “I think I’m feeling a little manic.”
Gomez, 33, emphasized that she doesn’t feel ashamed of her manic episodes, noting that understanding her diagnosis has helped her recognize the signs more quickly.
“But it is helpful to have a partner who understands where the temperature is and can meet you where you are,” she said of Blanco. “Then you can gradually understand what’s happening.”
Selena Gomez added that having a supportive partner like her husband, Benny Blanco, has made a meaningful difference. The couple was photographed attending a Los Angeles Lakers game in November 2025.
Gomez also shared that receiving her bipolar disorder diagnosis allowed her to live more “freely” and better understand her emotional responses.
“I would act out of fear and I would act out of love, I’d act out of passion — it was all inconsistent,” she recalled. “It was crazy.”
The “Hands to Myself” singer first revealed she had bipolar disorder in 2020, following a public breakdown in 2018.
