Brett Favre probably won’t be blasting Bad Bunny anytime soon.

On Monday’s episode of his 4th & Favre podcast, the Pro Football Hall of Famer shared why he wouldn’t have chosen the Grammy-winning Puerto Rican star to headline the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show — a decision that has already sparked backlash from many, including former President Donald Trump.

“If it were up to me, I’d go with someone like Jason Aldean — someone who loves this country and that everyone can relate to,” Favre told co-host David Kano. “I think Jason Aldean is a true patriot and has an incredible voice.”

Packers legend Brett Favre weighs in on the Super Bowl 2026 halftime show.

Packers legend Brett Favre has shared his thoughts on the upcoming 2026 Super Bowl halftime show.

The former three-time NFL MVP — and known supporter of Donald Trump — didn’t go into much detail but made it clear he prefers a more traditional, patriotic performance.

“I like George Strait — that’s old school,” Favre said of the 73-year-old country icon. “There are a lot of choices out there.”

Reflecting on one of football’s most memorable musical moments, Favre recalled Whitney Houston’s rendition of the national anthem before Super Bowl XXV in 1991. “I was blown away,” he said. “If you didn’t have tears in your eyes watching and listening to that, something’s wrong with you.”

He added that while the national anthem and halftime show serve different purposes, both should move and inspire the audience. “Those are just two people off the top of my head,” he concluded.

During a recent episode of his 4th & Favre podcast, Brett Favre admitted he hadn’t expected co-host David Kano to ask him about the Super Bowl halftime show.

Favre, who supported Donald Trump during his 2024 re-election campaign and spoke at a rally in Green Bay, has been vocal about his preference for performers he sees as patriotic. His remarks come amid criticism of the NFL’s choice to have Bad Bunny headline the 2026 Super Bowl in Santa Clara, partly due to the singer’s opposition to Trump and his policies.

Born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, the 31-year-old Puerto Rican artist recently completed a 31-day residency in Puerto Rico, deliberately avoiding mainland U.S. stops amid concerns over mass deportation of Latinos. Bad Bunny, who performs in Spanish, is expected to maintain that language choice for the Super Bowl performance.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the backlash last month at the annual Fall League Meeting, noting that such criticism is common. “It’s carefully thought through,” Goodell said. “I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism. It’s pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching.”

The Super Bowl halftime show has been produced by Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by Jay-Z, since the 2019 season, with the company involved in selecting the performers.
