A young Alabama family is mourning the loss of 27-year-old Brittney Sherman following a tragic boating accident.

Brittney, a resident of Wilmer, Alabama, was on a boat in Bayou Sara near Saraland in Mobile County on June 15, accompanied by her husband, 30-year-old Cody Sherman, and their four children.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), two boats collided around 5:50 p.m. that Sunday, as confirmed to Fox News Digital.

The crash involved a 20-foot Avid Center Console boat carrying the Sherman family and a 26-foot Regulator Center Console vessel.

Authorities stated that the impact of the collision threw Brittney overboard.

Although emergency crews arrived quickly, rescue efforts were hindered by the bayou’s murky water, complicating the search for Brittney in the aftermath of the accident.

On June 15, Sherman was boating in Bayou Sara near Saraland in Mobile County with her husband, 30-year-old Cody Sherman, and their four children.

On Monday morning, search and rescue teams resumed efforts to locate the missing mother. At around 10:50 a.m., crews recovered Sherman’s body approximately 100 yards from where she had gone overboard.

Two other passengers on the Avid vessel were injured in the crash. Cody Sherman was taken to USA Health University Hospital in Mobile for treatment, while the couple’s 4-year-old child was transported to a nearby hospital.

The operator of the Avid boat was not injured, and the operator of the Regulator vessel also remained unharmed.

The ALEA Marine Patrol Division continues to investigate the cause of the crash. No charges have been filed at this time. Fox News Digital has contacted the Mobile County Medical Examiner’s Office for comment.

Cody and Brittney were parents to four children. Following her passing, Cody spoke about the heavy responsibility of raising their children on his own.

“Brittney, I love you more than anything in this world,” Cody wrote on Facebook. “I promise to take care of our babies for you, sweetheart. I know you’re watching over us from above.”

“Please guide me through this,” he added. “I’m not sure how I’m going to manage, but I’ll do my best to make you proud. I love you until we meet again.”
