On Thursday, President Trump signed an executive order granting TikTok an additional 90 days to either complete its sale to a U.S. company or face a ban in the United States.

The popular video-sharing app, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, now has until September 17 to secure an American buyer, according to a post from Trump on Truth Social.

On Thursday, Trump signed yet another extension for TikTok’s deadline.

In May, he hinted at the possibility of another extension, telling reporters, “Probably, yeah. Probably have to get China approval but I think we’ll get it. I think President Xi will ultimately approve it.”

The social platform now has until September to secure a buyer.

This marks the third extension Trump has granted the platform, which played a key role in helping him win over young voters in the 2024 election.

A congressionally mandated ban on the app was originally set to take effect in January, but the app was only offline in the U.S. for 14 hours before Trump issued a reprieve.

The president has called for ByteDance to divest the US assets of TikTok on national security grounds, claiming it could give China access to a vast reserve of American user data.
