Selena Gomez has disclosed that she is unable to carry children due to medical reasons.
The 32-year-old “Lose You to Love Me” singer — who recently made a surprise visit to a high school volleyball team in Colorado — opened up to Vanity Fair on Monday, sharing that she had to “grieve” the fact that she cannot become a mother naturally.
“I’ve never spoken about this before,” she said, “but unfortunately, I can’t carry my own children.”
“I have several medical issues that would put both my life and the baby’s at risk. It was something I had to grieve for a while.”
Despite this, the actress remains determined to become a mother, emphasizing that her journey to motherhood will simply “look different.”

She shared with the outlet, “It’s not exactly how I imagined it. I thought it would happen the way it does for everyone else.”
Selena added, “I’m in a much better place about it now. I’m grateful there are amazing options like surrogacy and adoption, both of which are real possibilities for me.”
Reflecting on these alternatives, she said, “It made me appreciate the different paths available for those longing to become mothers. I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what my journey to motherhood will look like, even though it’ll be a bit different.”
Selena emphasized that whether through surrogacy or adoption, the child would be hers. “At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. It will be my baby,” she affirmed.
Even before dating her current partner, music producer Benny Blanco, the *Wizards of Waverly Place* star had expressed a strong desire to become a mother by age 35.
“Before I met my boyfriend, I was single for five years, aside from going on a few dates. I thought, ‘Okay, if this is where I’m at, then what matters most to me? Family,'” she shared about her future plans.
She and her 36-year-old boyfriend — who produced *Lonely* for her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber in 2021 — began dating privately in mid-2023.
Blanco recently revealed his desire to have children with Selena during an appearance on *The Howard Stern Show*, saying, “That’s my next goal, to check that box. I love being around kids.”

“Unfortunately, I have several medical issues that would put both my life and the baby’s at risk. That was something I had to grieve for a while,” she shared. Pictured with her Goddaughter Aubriella in 2024.
