Staying in tune with Hollywood’s glamour often involves resisting the effects of aging through various procedures and plastic surgeries. It’s no secret that numerous celebrities choose surgical enhancements to maintain a youthful appearance and capitalize on the opportunities that come with it.

Nevertheless, not every individual in the film industry is inclined to embrace this trend, and actress Sally Field stands as a notable example.

Having graced the screens in iconic films like Smokey and the Bandit, Norma Rae, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Forrest Gump, and adorned with numerous accolades including two Academy Awards, two BAFTA Film Award nominations, three Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, two SAG Awards, and most recently, the prestigious Life Achievement Award, Sally Field undeniably boasts a remarkable career.

At 76, she maintains a timeless allure and proudly embraces her natural appearance. In her acceptance speech for the SAG Achievement Award, she dazzled in a magnificent black gown, complemented by her gracefully silver hair.

Reflecting on her journey, the actress shared, “I felt guarded, reserved, and out of the spotlight. But I was never sure what I’d say or do on stage. I would astonish myself. I wasn’t hoping for praise or attention, though it’s excellent.”

She went on to express, “Acting has consistently revolved around capturing those invaluable moments when I feel complete, wholly, and occasionally dangerously alive. Navigating a path to those moments has always been a challenge.

“They provided me the opportunity to unfold and discover aspects of myself that I would never have otherwise known. I’ve dedicated nearly six decades to this craft, and there hasn’t been a single day when I haven’t genuinely embraced the identity of an actor.”

In 2016, when questioned about portraying the role of an elderly and eccentric woman, Doris Miller, Sally Field shared her sentiments.

“It’s fine that I’m an elderly woman; 70 is considered old. My years have bestowed upon me strength; I’ve earned the right to have them, and I’ve embraced them. Even if there are aspects like my neck that I may not favor, it’s okay,” Field conveyed to NPR.

In the face of the natural aging process, Field chooses to remain authentic to herself, even acknowledging the prevalent struggle against ageism in Hollywood. Reflecting on her own appearance, she remarked, “‘Oh, I wish that weren’t happening to my neck,’ I think when I watch myself on television. Furthermore, your eyes may bulge, and your face might seem to be collapsing. Yet, I then encounter some women (who have undergone plastic surgery) whom I once considered stunning. Oh no, I’m feeling right now. Resist the urge! It would seem disrespectful to who they are at this moment,” she shared.

Field has been through two marriages and two divorces. In 1986, she married Steven Craig, with whom she had two sons. The couple parted ways in 1975.

She then dated Burt Reynolds before she married film producer Alan Greisman. Field and Greisman share a son together.

In due course, she made the choice to dedicate her full attention to her career. However, it was only when she assumed the role of a grandmother that her life underwent a transformative shift.

Wholeheartedly embracing this new chapter, she finds joy in quality moments spent with her grandchildren at her splendid beach residence overlooking the ocean.

Sally Field holds a special place in our hearts.
