Rhode Island’s adored traffic judge, Frank Caprio, who captured the hearts of millions over the years, has disclosed his battle with cancer. The beloved host of “Caught in Providence” shared an emotional video, touching on his recent birthday celebrations and revealing that he has been “diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, an insidious form of the disease.” Caprio expressed the irony of receiving such news around what is usually “one of the happiest days of the year” for him, his birthday last month.

At the age of 87, Judge Frank remarked, “This birthday holds a distinction from any I’ve experienced before. Not too long ago, I wasn’t feeling well, underwent a medical examination, and received an unfavorable report. I’ve been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, a particularly insidious form of the disease.”

He went on to mention that during his treatments, which are taking place both in Rhode Island and at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, an affiliate of Massachusetts General Hospital, he is being cared for by a “wonderful team of doctors.”

“I pray that God guides their thoughts and their hands in their treatment of me. I know this is a long road and I’m fully prepared to fight as hard as I can,” he continued, and asked his followers to pray for him.

“One thing that people ask me is, ‘What can I do for you?’ First of all, I can’t thank all of you enough for your friendship and your kind messages. But I would ask each of you in your own way to please pray for me. I am in need of the power of prayer, which I believe, in addition to the medical treatment that I’m receiving, is the most powerful weapon to help me survive this.

“Just knowing that you were keeping me in your thoughts means the world to me. So thank you for all your past messages. Thank you for your loving support. And please remember, just a small prayer, I’d really appreciate it.”

Judge Frank served as the chief judge of the municipal court in Providence, Rhode Island until his retirement in January 2023, concluding nearly four decades of dedicated service. Our thoughts and prayers go out to this remarkable man.
