Tragedy Strikes as Twin Toddlers, a Boy and a Girl, Succumb to Drowning After Reportedly Exiting Through a Door Left Ajar by Their Great-Grandmother Struggling with Alzheimer’s
Jenny Callazzo, the mother of Locklyn and Loreli, an 18-year-old brother and sister, made a heart-wrenching discovery when she found her children unconscious in the murky waters of their Oklahoma City home’s pool. Despite desperate attempts to revive them, both toddlers were pronounced dead hours later.
Callazzo, a stay-at-home mother of six and owner of a boutique, shares her family home with her husband and grandmother. Aerial footage revealed a pool tainted with dark green water, likely attributed to the presence of thick algae. Witnesses vividly recall the distressing scene as emergency responders worked to resuscitate the children while their anguished mother stood by.
In the days leading up to the tragic incident, Callazzo shared a photo of the twins playing outside with the caption, “just want to play outside.”
Presently, the authorities are probing the tragic incident, as reported by the Daily Mail; however, they have ruled out any foul play.
In response to the unforeseen loss, the Callazzo family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to alleviate the financial burden. The message on the fundraising page states, “These precious little ones were taken from us prematurely. Any contribution to assist with expenses would be deeply appreciated. We are grateful for everyone’s love and support.”
Experts are cautioning parents about the potential hazards of having a pool when there are young children in the household. Laura Gamino, the injury prevention coordinator for trauma at OU Health, emphasizes, “Children are naturally drawn to water, and toddlers lack the skills to extricate themselves from it… Drowning occurs swiftly and silently.”
“People may assume that a child in distress in the water would be loud and screaming, but they often can’t because their mouth is filled with water. It’s an eerily silent occurrence, and that’s what makes it so frightening,” she explains.
She strongly recommends parents to install fences around their pools that are at least 4 feet high, with door handles positioned out of reach for children.
Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the grieving family during this difficult time.
