A single act of kindness can have a profound impact, whether it’s as simple as holding a door open for a stranger or covering the coffee bill for the person behind you in line. One small gesture has the power to be life-altering.

In a heartwarming gesture, James Anderson, a dedicated repairman, brought joy to a 91-year-old woman battling acute leukemia. When she received a bill with no charges, she and her daughter recognized the depth of kindness that Anderson was sharing with the world.

Anderson has extended his assistance to thousands of elderly individuals and people with disabilities across Lancashire, United Kingdom. His diligent efforts to fund his charitable work primarily revolved around crowdfunding and donations, as reported by the Daily Mail. The catalyst for Anderson’s inspiring mission came after witnessing the mistreatment of an elderly man by another technician.

He has channeled his compassion through the non-profit organization he founded, DEPHER (Disabled & Elderly Plumbing and Heating Emergency Repair). Prior to this venture, he operated his own plumbing company. Anderson’s internet fame soared when a customer shared a receipt with a $0 charge that he had sent her.

The invoice for the repair came with an attached note, assuring the lady that there would never be a charge, and his team would be available 24/7, any day, to ensure her comfort. The overwhelming response from the public left the dedicated repairman astonished.

Furthermore, this heartwarming story serves as a testament to the enduring humanity in our world, highlighting the profound impact a random act of kindness can have on someone’s life.

In a Facebook post dated September 2019, a receipt was shared that depicted the service provided to a 91-year-old woman who had called a repairman to fix her leaking boiler. The receipt described the repair assistance as “end of life care” and explicitly stated, “No charges for this lady under any circumstances. We will be available 24 hours to help her and ensure her maximum comfort.” The total cost was $0.

The photograph of the receipt quickly gained widespread attention, earning James Anderson, the repairman, well-deserved praise for his altruistic act. Anderson, speaking to the Daily Mail, admitted, “We didn’t expect it. It’s been everywhere.”

However, this act of kindness was not an isolated incident in Anderson’s life. His compassionate nature has inspired others, as reported by BBC News. He established the non-profit organization DEPHER in March 2017 and has been providing assistance to people ever since.

Through DEPHER, Anderson has offered free or affordable plumbing services to those in need, particularly during the harsh winter months. Although this noble endeavor has posed financial challenges for Anderson, he remains resolute in his commitment to the cause. When asked why he is willing to go into debt to ensure the happiness and safety of others, Anderson responded to the Daily Mail, saying, “It’s an ethos that’s in my heart and it will always stay there.”

In an interview with BBC News, Anderson emphasized, “There are too many elderly and disabled people suffering in silence. They don’t like asking for help. They don’t want to be a burden. We take away the burden, the stigma.”

Anderson’s vision for the future includes the expansion of his non-profit organization. He expressed, “I’ve got other plumbers… offering help. My hope is to get DEPHER to go national, serving every city and town.”
