In March 2022, Genesis took to the stage for their final performance as a group at London’s O2 Arena in the United Kingdom.
During the show, Collins, who had to remain seated throughout due to health issues, passed the drumming duties to his son Nicholas. He addressed the audience and declared, ‘It’s the last show for Genesis,’ which was met with applause. In March 2023, Mike Rutherford appeared on the BBC Breakfast Show to promote his own tour. During the interview, he provided an update on his cherished bandmate, revealing that Collins’s condition had worsened since their final show.
“As you know, Phil is a bit… He’s much more immobile than he used to be, which is a shame, but during the tour, he was in good spirits,” Rutherford shared, as reported by NME.
Despite his physical limitations, Rutherford reassured fans that Collins was content and enjoying his time at home. ‘He’s doing fine now, enjoying life. He’s worked so hard over the years. I think he’s relishing his time at home,’ he added.”
