On July 22nd, Prince George celebrated his tenth birthday, marking a milestone for the future monarch of Britain. While his eventual ascension to the throne might be distant, his parents are committed to instilling a sense of significance in him and his siblings as they prepare for their future roles.
Despite their royal lineage, George, Charlotte, and Louis lead lives that are as ordinary as possible, thanks to the efforts of William and Kate. They impart values of diligence, socializing with friends, and acknowledging their privileges, whether they embrace them willingly or not.
Currently, the three siblings are enrolled in the esteemed Lambrook school, where they gain knowledge about animal care, engage in various sports, and attend classes.
Royal expert Jennie Bond explains, “[Prince William and Princess Kate] aim for George, Charlotte, and Louis to fully grasp the exceptional circumstances of their upbringing. Regarding George’s birthday, similar to other royal birthdays, his celebration was notably discreet.
“They’ve always maintained a strong inclination towards secrecy and privacy concerning his birthday,” remarked royal commentator Duncan Larcombe in an interview with Fox. “No details have ever been officially released… regarding birthday festivities; everything about it is veiled in secrecy.”
“Although we’re witnessing [George] in public more frequently nowadays, the emphasis remains on safeguarding his privacy rather than making him a public figure,” he added.
“His parents have taken a hands-on approach, adopting a parenting style akin to what Kate experienced growing up with her two siblings within a close-knit family. Their focus is largely centered around cherishing family values. They’ve cultivated a truly distinctive family dynamic.”
In addition to the Palace’s team of chefs, it’s Kate who consistently takes charge of crafting her children’s birthday cakes. “I thoroughly enjoy the cake-making process,” Kate shared during A Berry Royal Christmas in 2019. “It’s turned into a bit of a tradition where I stay up until midnight, dealing with copious amounts of cake mix and icing, often making more than necessary. But I find immense joy in it.”
As per the customary practice, the Palace shared a new photograph of George. However, in a departure from the norm, this time the photo was captured by Millie Pilkington, the same photographer who previously took George’s picture on his fifth birthday.
The young Prince strikes a pose on the stairs at Windsor, dressed in a checked shirt and trousers. His face is adorned with a wide smile, radiating the same irresistible charm as always.
One of the individuals who bestowed a birthday gift upon Prince George is Julia Samuel, a close friend of Princess Diana. She is dedicated to upholding a cherished tradition of Diana’s – the practice of gifting “impossible toys” that require days of assembly. Julia Samuel shared, “I do for George what [Diana] did for us, which is to give these intricate toys that are delightfully noisy and demand considerable effort to construct.” She continued, “William then spends days piecing them together, assembling all the mechanisms that produce raucous tooting sounds, flashing lights, and more.”
Samuel went on to reveal that William faced days of challenge, a situation that brought abundant joy to the entire family, especially the “cheeky” George.
“[It] brings a smile to my face, and it does the same for George,” Julia elaborated, describing George as an exceptional young boy. Speaking about the young Prince, Samuel remarked, “He’s brimming with humor, tenacity, and impishness, traits that would have undoubtedly endeared him to [Diana].”
As anticipated, Prince George was inundated with numerous cards and heartfelt birthday wishes.

A noticeable observation was that Harry and Meghan refrained from publicly extending a birthday greeting to George, though it remains uncertain if they conveyed their well-wishes privately on the Saturday.
Supporters of the royal family engaged in discussions, pointing out that the Sussexes could have utilized social media to convey their birthday wishes to George. However, there was also a consensus that no members of the royal family have shared birthday messages for Harry and Meghan’s children, Archie and Lilibet, in recent years.
In his comprehensive memoir titled “Spare,” Harry detailed the immense happiness he experienced upon George’s birth. Nevertheless, his expectations of spending ample time with the newborn were not met as he had hoped. “I assumed I would receive an invitation to their home whenever I pleased. However, days went by, and the anticipated invitation never materialized,” Harry expressed in his memoir. He further wrote, “I comprehended the situation, I reasoned. Their lives are undoubtedly filled with commitments – nurturing a family takes time. Or perhaps… having a third person around could be somewhat overwhelming. Maybe if I were to marry, the dynamics might shift.”
Criticism arose as Harry involved his nephew in the issues he and William were facing. According to royal expert Angela Epstein from the Daily Express, Harry might have underestimated the potential harm his actions could cause to George.
“Considering the trajectory of tragedy in his early life, one would think that Harry’s care for his own nephew, George, should be an automatic concern,” Epstein commented. “Harry has consistently shown affection for his brother’s three young children, assuming the role of a devoted and enjoyable uncle.”
Epstein further noted, “Given that George holds the second position in the line of succession, the possibility that any fallout from the Duke’s discord with the monarchy could impact him should surely be a matter of great concern for Harry.”
