The time when Hurricane Harvey took over Texas, many families found themselves being evacuated from their houses, one of those families was The Sepedas family. It had been a difficult period, they lost their Friendswood home to the hurricane and there’s nothing left to do. The family was devastated.

When the destroying hurricane made landfall near Rockport, it brought with it 130-mile-per-hour winds and an insane amount of rainfall that led to significant flooding. The Sepedas fled their hometown and left behind their belongings and a house full of water.

But this Houston family’s hurricane story has a wonderful silver lining – thanks to a kindhearted waitress named Mary Gough.

The husband Carlos and his wife Tammy were out with his mother-in-law Jill Jones to grab dinner at Sam’s Restaurant in Fairfield, Texas. They chatted with their friendly waitress, Mary.

Mary was touched with the couple’s situation, having seen all about the devastating storm on the news. When the waitress learned about the Sepedas personal situation, she immediately decided to help.

As the couple was preparing to leave and head back to Jill’s home, Mary handed Tammy a folded note. When the couple was out in the parking lot, she glanced at it.

Inside was something that completely took them by surprise. Inside the note, Mary had written:

This isn’t much compared to your loss. Buy you something special. God bless – my prayers are w/u”

She also had enclosed a $100 bill inside the note. They were floored!

In fact, Carlos and Tammy walked back inside the restaurant and tried to give Mary her money back – believing they shouldn’t accept it. But she told them that she had prayed about it, and refused to take the money back.

Mary then offered a table and chairs if they needed them. Carlos shared the experience on Facebook, noting that:

“This is how I know Texas is great!”

Carlos was so grateful that he took to Facebook to let the world know about Mary’s wonderful gesture. And as of this writing, his post has been shared more than 29,000 times and has also racked up more than 80,000 likes!
