We go to college for years of education in the hopes of pursuing our dreams and making a difference in the world. We educate ourselves so that we can have more educated conversations. But I bet this teacher didn’t think that the pinnacle of her career would be teaching a deaf child that other people could hear his farts…
Anna Trupiano is a first-grade teacher at the Kendall Demonstration Elementary School in Washington DC. The school specializes in supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing students all the way from birth up to the eighth grade.
Alongside teaching the usual school subjects, Trupiano also teaches her students how to thrive in society. But her most recent lesson resulted in her having to teach one student about a pretty personal issue… Passing gas.
When a six-year-old boy in her class, who is deaf, farted loudly, some of his classmates started laughing. The boy was mortified by their reaction. He didn’t know that farts made a sound!
Thankfully for us, this turned into a hilarious lesson that Trupiano will surely never forget. She shared the conversation on Facebook and it is one of the best things you will read today…
Oh, and the whole conversation happened in sign language!
The teacher explains farts to a deaf student and it is hilarious…
“Wait, they can hear all farts?!?!” Life will never be the same again for this kid…
“Tell them to stop listening to my farts! That is not nice!”
Just to clarify, everybody farts.
I think that Trupiano handled the situation sensitively. The children added the touch of humor!
