For a pregnant woman, we can all understand how these nine months can be a difficult time for her. That’s why we have to show more kindness to pregnant women with simple gestures like giving up our seats on public transportation for them, most of us try to do little things for pregnant women that demonstrate how we empathize with their journey.
However, one steakhouse in Marysville, Washington, asked a pregnant woman to leave their premises recently, for the crime of wearing a crop top that revealed her bare belly.
Charisha Raylee Gobin was seven months along in her pregnancy at the time of the incident. It was a hot summer night, so she dressed in a flowing skirt and a cropped t-shirt with the words “weirdo” emblazoned on the chest.
While the outfit might be a bit shocking to those from more traditional generations, crop tops have been a staple in modern fashion trends for quite some time now. The only thing that separated Charisha from other crop top-wearers was the fact that her belly protruded from under the hem of her cropped tee.
According to Charisha on CBS News, the restaurant cited “health code violations” as the reason why they asked Charisha to leave. Charisha was livid when she exited the restaurant and posted an angry rant on her Facebook page, accompanied by a picture of the allegedly “unacceptable” outfit.
As the story went viral and local community residents vowed to never step foot in the restaurant again, the management of the establishment sprung into action to issue an apology on their social media page:
“The server in question has been with our [company] for almost 20 years,” the statement to the local news media issued by Buzz Inn management read. “[She] was trying to use her best judgment and by no means was trying to be demeaning to [Charisha].” The company went on to offer their “sincerest apologies.”
While most were outraged by the restaurant’s actions, some community members actually sided with the restaurant, arguing that Charisha’s outfit was inappropriate whether she was pregnant or not.
