The rocking, feeding, changing, singing, soothing, calming – every hour, on the hour – all with one eye open. For a new mom, it can be one of the hardest experiences of a lifetime – having to tend to a new baby completely sleep-deprived, and for many moms, having to do it all completely solo while a carefree daddy effortlessly sleeps through all the moans, groans and cries of the night.
While most moms would react to their sleeping mates with obscenities and frustration, new momma of Dubai, Caroline Olling Andersen, surprisingly chose to let her creative juices flow and put pen to paper at 4 a.m. In a poem written for her daughter, Andersen expresses her feelings about her snoozing husband:
My latest 4 a.m. poem titled, “Daddy’s Asleep:”
I love your daddy, I really do,
After all, without daddy, I wouldn’t have you.
But from midnight till sunrise, it’s just you and I.
And as each hour passes, I’m not gonna lie:
Mommy’s love slowly fades, becomes angry and weak,
Because no matter what, your dad is f*cking asleep!
It all starts out lovely. We kiss each other goodnight.
