Mangli Munda, an Indian 18-year-old girl, has married a stray dog to protect her tribe from evil. Mangli was forced to marry the dog because of a local guru, who made her family believe that she had ill-luck and cannot marry a man. According to the guru, if Mangli marries a man, her ill-luck is going to destroy him and his family. Therefore, she has to marry a dog as a tribal ritual to to get rid of the bad luck. Strangely, it is not the first time that a local girl from that village has married a dog. Mangli was not happy with marrying a dog but she accepted because she wanted to change her luck. She can get married later with a man without having to divorce the dog. “I am marrying a dog because the village elders believe that my evil spell will be passed on to the dog,” said Mangli. “After that is done, the man I will marry will have a long life.” Her father, Sri Amnmunda, did not reject this marriage and he is the one who has found the stray dog and named him Sheru. The dog was brought in a chauffeur driven car and he was welcomed by the villagers .
