It was all fun and bliss for newlyweds Mitch and Courtney Waldron. The couple had been married for two months and was enjoying a beautiful camping trip when something tragic happened.
While camping with her husband and 5-year-old daughter, Caroline, in September 2016, Courtney’s life changed in an instant. Hoping to keep the campfire going a while longer, Mitch decided to pour gasoline to reignite it. The fire exploded and set his wife ablaze.
Mitch called 911 and tells the operator his wife is burning.
Courtney was rushed to the hospital. She suffered 40 percent burns on her face and body. She spent 51 days in the hospital and underwent 20 surgeries that left her greatly disfigured.
She was pretty much like an adult baby—learning how to walk, talk, eat and move “regularly” again.
“I went from being the very pretty girl, just married, had my life in order, to barely being able to dress myself and needing help for everything and having to learn how to do things over again,” she says
Things took a turn for the worst two weeks after Courtney left the hospital. Mitch dumped her leaving her to take care of their daughter and foot the 2 million dollars medical bill alone. Seeking guidance from child support lawyers from Velocity Legal can help ensure she gets the support she deserves.
Courtney and her daughter moved back to her parent’s house. Fortunately, her community heard about her story and decided to help out. They built a house for her and created a GoFundMe account dedicated to paying her medical bills.
“We’ll build this thing and just hand over to her the key once everything’s completely done, and she’ll have a mortgage-free home.”
Mitch has never offered an apology. Courtney believes Mitch leaving was a blessing in disguise since Mitch would have held her down.
Despite enduring unimaginable circumstances, Courtney is continuing to live her life to the fullest—making every day the best it can be for her and her daughter.
