Ciara was born with Giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevus — Doctors diagnosed her with a rare skin affliction that has left her body covered in hundreds of oversized moles and birthmarks. This uncommon condition can happen to only one in every 500,000 people.
Her parents treated her, raised her and loved her just like their other children, they made no difference between them.
However, there wasn’t the same case when she stepped out of her house, especially when she started school, it was obvious that all eyes were on her and she was not treated like a normal children, but much worse, she was bullied and subjected to cruel comments from strangers and kids her age. Her classmates even gave her the nickname “spotty dog”. Ciara had to deal with this bullies for many years as she went through elementary school, middle school and high school.
Though hateful comments and stares can sometimes get to Ciera, she has stayed positive and confident. She credits all of this to her supportive parents who once told her that her birthmarks were really “angel kisses.”
She embraced her birthmarks as a part of who she was! And she has this message to share with the world:
“Everyone is born to look different, and we should all feel beautiful in our own skin.”
