When a woman found out that her husband was cheating on her, she went to her grandmother for help. She sat in her grandmother’s kitchen, hoping that the old woman would impart some wisdom to help her get through this difficult time.

Finally, the grandmother showed her granddaughter the pot with the coffee grounds in it. The water had turned to a deep, rich hue and it smelled wonderful. “The coffee, however, improves when it faces the same challenge as the egg and the carrot. Not only does it take form in a way that is more useful and delicious than it was at first, but it improved its surroundings, the water, too.”
The granddaughter was stunned. She understood now what she had to do. She did not need to give up. She needed to adapt to her situation without becoming hardened or crushed by the weight of her problem. She thanked her grandmother, who reminded her simply, “Be the coffee.”
