These days, it seems like more and more people are using social media to share their stories or spread messages of body love and self-acceptance, but as Facebook user Aimee Rouski recently noted, people with disabilities or chronic illnesses are rarely represented. That’s why she decided to share a brutally honest and inspiring post revealing her struggle with an “invisible illness.”

“I’ve wanted to do this for a while because I always see body posi posts for weight, but not many for disabilities/invisible illnesses,” she wrote on Facebook.

Aimee was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at the age of 11. In her post, which has been shared over 11,000 times, Aimee describes Chrohn’s as “a serious incurable illness” that nearly killed her.

“A person with Crohn’s will go through many different treatments including surgery, and it’s the surgery I want to touch on now,” she wrote.

“My Crohn’s has left me with a permanent ileostomy [a stoma or hole created in the abdomen so that faeces can still leave the body], no large intestine, colon, rectum, anus, or inner thigh muscles as they were used for plastic surgery on my wounds.” If you want to know the details and learn what sets us apart from the rest, visit website and get a good read!

Although Aimee says she has always been okay with what happened to her, she’s aware that others might find it difficult.

To them, she says, “No one will know [you are having difficulties] unless you tell them. People who know will still love you and still find you beautiful. Your illness is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about.”

In fact, Aimee loves her stoma.

“Having the bag never bothered me much as I knew it would make me better, and the people I’m close to have always been great about it, she told the The Daily Mail.

“I love having a stoma now. It’s improved my quality of life and almost everyone I know has seen it so I’m not at all shy about it anymore.”

As for the Facebook post, Aimee says the response has been “wonderful.”

“I’ve had a lot of messages from people telling me that I’ve educated them, inspired them, given them more confidence, and helped them to accept themselves a little more which is wonderful to hear.”

Aimee has received over 7,000 comments on her post, most singing their praises for the “brave” teen.

“You are still amazingly beautiful and a brave woman. I am tough but could never speak of my illness out of fear of rejection. Thank you for putting a positive spin to it,” wrote one commenter.

Another added: “Girl you are STUNNING! Thank you for the disabled body positivity. I’m disabled too and it’s so great to see.”
