In a touching act of support, Joan Lyons decided to shave her hair during her very own wedding reception in a loving tribute to her terminally ill groom.
After spending decades together as close friends without telling each other how they really felt, Craig, 44 years old, decided to confess his true feelings to Joan, also 44, “I fell in love with her as soon as I set my eyes on her when we were 14,” Craig told the Daily Mail. It was after proposing to Joan and deciding together to start their new life as a married couple, that Craig and Joan were hit by devastating news.
Craig found out in August 2015 that he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was given 9 to 12 months to live. “We decided to do all the things we wanted to do but never did,” Joan said.
In a heartbreaking act of solidarity, Joan decided to cut off her hair after she walked down the aisle with her new husband.
In addition to donating her hair to The Little Princess Trust, an organization that makes wigs for severely sick children, she and her husband also encouraged their wedding guests to donate to other charities on their behalf.
