We have previously shared the heart-breaking story of Hope, the 2-year-old Nigerian boy who was abandoned by his parents and also neglected by his town. The little boy was left wandering without clothes and suffering from worms and malnutrition for 8 months. The reason of his abandon was unbelievable but it’s apparently common among the Nigerian families. “Thousands of children are being accused of being witches and we’ve both seen torture of children, dead children and frightened children.” Anja Ringgren Loven, Danish aid worker who saved Hope from the edge of death.
The moment of rescue was captured in heart-wrenching picture that went viral and touched the hearts of people around the world. The result: Anja and her husband had received nearly $1 million in donations. Loven– who is the founder of African Children’s Aid Education and Development Foundation– used the money to run a children’s shelter and open a doctor clinic. There she was able to care for Hope.
Loven took Hope to hospital where he had to have worms remove and daily blood transfusions.
One year later, Loven posted a new photo that is also going viral but for all the good reasons, Hope, the same boy is starting school after a full recovery, and a recreation of his first photo shows just how far he’s come.
“On the 30 of January 2016 I went on a rescue mission… A rescue mission that went viral, and today it’s exactly 1 year ago the world came to know a young little boy called Hope. This week, Hope will start school.”
The young boy started gaining weight and his energy just 8 months after his rescue.
