Meditation: A World of Self-discovery

We use cliches so much they are going out of fashion. These types of phrases always intrigue me and I often ruminate on the meaning and derivation of them. Where did they come from? Some of them are quite astounding, what person claimed beating the dead horse was such a heinous act to commit anyway?

I heard a phrase recently which is so simple, yet so beautiful: lose yourself.

I immediately connected this with meditation. The phrase just seemed to make everything click at last, a sort of epiphany if you like. Meditation is a wonderful spiritual act and an enhanced and heightened way to live. It gives me peace and solitude and the chance to explore myself away from the hustle and bustle of the real world. It unlocks the real you.

  • Put it into play

Meditation is not just a silent act, there are a multitude of ways to carry it out:

Making Art- Even if one has no artistic acumen it does not matter, just lose yourself in a drawing of your own creation, whatever it may be.

Journalism- Writing can be a great way to declutter your head by putting pen to paper and letting everything out. It can be quite an exhilarating thing and quite a release too.

  • Doing the dishes

Surprisingly, doing menial chores and housework can be quite therapeutic as you go through the monotonous, yet strangely comforting wash and scrub cycle.

  • Obsessive Compulsive Tendencies (dusting, folding clothes etc.)

This sort of behaviour keeps your mind focused on a simple task and can let you have some peace from the other thoughts in your brain and other stimuli and stressors.

  • Getting dressed up

For females, getting dressed up is normally the best part of a night on the town. This is because you are ‘making art’ and making yourself feel better about yourself.

  • Exercise

The natural high you get after a bout of intensive exercise beats any caffeine hit you can get. Exercise releases endorphins which boost mood through the influx of serotonin, the feel-good chemical, into our brain. You can push your boundaries and stimulate yourself physically.

  • Tedious Tasks

The word tedious has negative connotations, but they are often important things which can result in us being in a blank, meditative-like state from the boredom they induce. Writing a blog or doing constant repetitive tasks are good examples of these.

  • The Shower

The ideal venue for a bit of alone time where you can piece together your thoughts and mull over the events of the day. Sheer bliss.

  • Found
