Yet it is an unbelievable story, Marina Chapman, the 63-year-old British grandmother, claims her childhood biography to be a real tale that took place in the South American jungle when Marina, the child, was kidnapped and abandoned in the Colombian woods to be raised by monkeys.
When she found a good publisher to share her life’s greatest adventure, Marina provided her story’s author, Lynne Barrett-Lee, with wonderful and astonishing details that wouldn’t be given from a non-experienced person. Her book has been considered as one of the most interesting stories of the era and contained surprising events that some found really difficult to believe until Marina was being subject to scientific research and examination that supported her assumptions.
In 1954 in a real Tarazan story, Marina was living with her family in a South American remote mountain village. At the age of four or five year-old, the little child was stolen from her family’s house to be taken by her kidnappers to Colombian jungle to be left alone in the woods in one of the most mysterious places on the earth.
With no food or water, the miserable child stuck to her position imagining that somebody will come looking for her before it would be dark but nobody showed up. Marina walked alone in a place surrounded with very high trees, weird herbs and full of creatures, most of them dangerous and poisoning.
Frightened, stunned and starving, Marina screamed, yelled, cried, and ran long ways with no signal of human life, until she came across a group of capuchin monkeys, which for Marina, was hardly looking like people.
Feeling somehow happy to find creatures like humans, Marina tried to get close to her neighbors to get a position among this new family. Acting only on instinct, the hopeless child stayed near those apes for days aiming to survive. Learning from them, eating from what they eat, climbing trees and hiding from cold and rain the way they do. After all, Marina difficulty succeeded to get her position as one of them.
Being accepted by monkeys wasn’t really an easy mission for Marina unless an event changed their view towards her after being poisoned by a fruit; the oldest monkey guided her to drink a liquid that caused her to vomit and got healed and that was the beginning of a relationship that lasted for five years.
After all that period in the jungle, Marina gradually lost her ability to speak, sense of human being and became more feral. At the age of ten, a pair of hunters rescued the little child and took her to the lawless Colombian city of Cucuta where she was sold to a brothel to escape later from her abusive captors and settle down the streets to eventually lead her own gang of thieves in a second battle to survive.
Although hard to believe, national geographic scientists were attracted by her story and proposed examinations on Marina’s body. Their discovering were quite surprising for her unbelievers as they found that Marina suffered from bad nutrition reflected on her body’s progression at the age from five to ten year-old.
Either real or fantasy, Marina’s biography stays one of the weirdest and most wonderful stories of this era.
